Jeezy, Missy E. & Method Man star in Adidas’ first TV ads

In honor of its 60th anniversary, long-time hip-hop supporters Adidas will be launching their first ever U.S. TV advertising campaign and have employed Young Jeezy, Method Man, DMC, Missy Elliott and even Russell Simmons to star in them. The ads will begin airing this week and also feature celebs such as Kevin Garnett and David Beckham mixed with the hip-hop stars. It’s nice to see Adidas stay close to their hip-hop ties after so many years since they teamed with Run D.M.C. back in the early 80’s.

The campaign will run a series of 30 and 60 second spots all focused around meeting together for a big pool party. My favorite is this K.G. vs. Jeezy spot.

Kanye shows off newest Pastelle jacket at awards show

I know I’m a bit late on this but at the recent American Music Awards Kanye performed and took the opportunity to show off another Pastelle piece, a very retro looking varsity jacket designed by Kayne’s Pastelle designer partner Kim Jones.

Despite the many stories on the net, ahem including our own, Kanye’s recent showing proves that the name Pastelle is here to stay.

Kanye West’s website for his Pastelle clothing line has been untouched for more than a year. Previously the site was a simple splash page that read “Pastelle” and “coming soon.” Finally, Kanye has updated the site, but it’s not what you think. In fact, it’s a puzzle of some sort. The site now displays a series of cryptic symbols (shown below) and redirects you to the URL of pasttellmuseum.com.

What is the Past Tell Museum? Kanye stans around the globe are trying to figure out the meaning of these symbols and the new site. I’ll tell you the meaning right now. It’s a triangle, followed by a plus sign followed by an equals sign. Done. I figured you out Kanye! Now show us some Pastelle CLOTHING on this site!

HipHop Album Sales

Beyonce showed why she's a superstar, owning the #1 by a margin greater than 150,000 units with her I Am...Sasha Fierce project. The Top 10 was occupied several debuting artists, including '00s Rockers Nickelback, as well as recently chart-topping staples AC/DC and High School High.

T-Pain fell eight spots in his sophomore week of Th33 Ringz, making Beyonce the lone urban act in the Top 10, that is, until next week. T.I. was on Teddy's heels, with what remains the second best-selling rap album this year in Paper Trail. John Legend remained just behind T.I., with his acclaimed Evolver holding the #18 spot.

Former 112 member Slim, the flagship R&B artist at Asylum impressed some with his strong debut, beating out some major label rap competition, at #32 with Love's Crazy. The album features Big Boi and Fabolous.

DJ Khaled's artist Ace Hood shocked some with a #36 debut, despite the support of rap's most influential deejay right now and the Def Jam label. Gutta [click to read] may do some climbing, but the release did bring Khaled's We Global back to the Top 200, sliding in at #198.

Lil Wayne placed just behind Ace at #41, selling Tha Carter III, strongly towards three million, perhaps by year's end. After Young Jeezy held #64 with his latest, it was polarizing artist The Game and his LAX at #87.

Q-Tip and The Renaissance were just behind at #90. Critically acclaimed, the album may be a slower, but surely steady performer in weeks to come.

Ludacris Talks Being Underrated, Diplomats Reunion

With his latest album, Theater of the Mind, just days away from release, Ludacris is feeling slightly underrated when it comes to lyrical skill.

“As far as lyricism is concerned, I do feel like I’m a little underrated,” the ATL rapper told BET.com. “I think that this album is out to prove exactly that point. I feel like that there are certain places in the top 5 or the top 10 that I need to be.”

With five additional studio albums under his belt, a record label, and a budding acting career, Luda still wants to prove that he’s hungry when it comes to Hip Hop music.

“I’m letting everyone know that I’m still as hungry as day one, even though this is album number six.”

When discussing Hip Hop beefs, Ludacris offers his wishes to see the Diplomats reconcile and start recording again.

“I kind of want to see Jim Jones, Cam’ron and Juelz Santana all back together. That dipset. I don’t know if its beef because they all went their separate ways but I’d like to see them back together. That’s coming from me all day.”

Theater of the Mind hits shelves Tuesday, November 24 and features appearances from TI, Chris Rock, Common, Spike Lee and more.

Ron Browz on T-Pain Dis, "Fof Somebody Using Auto-Tune wrong, I made a Hit Record"

With his mega hit record "Pop Champagne" continuing to explode on radio stations across the nation, SOHH sat down with Ron Browz to find out what's next for the producer-turned-singer. Known for working behind the scenes on production for major artists like Nas, Snoop Dogg, Amerie, Busta Rhymes and Ludacris, Ron has stepped forward to introduce fans to his vocal skills.

"It was always in the back of my mind, 'cause as I made tracks for other artists, I always, uh, kinda like wrote in my mind or rapped in my mind," Ron told SOHH. "Like different ideas but just gave the beats to other artists instead of using them for my personal usage."

Admitting "Pop Champagne" helped him land an album deal with Universal, the singer clarified the confusion behind the song's ownership since it also Jim Jones' first single of his major label debut, Pray 4 Reign.
"It's both our records, like, I had put the record out by myself. It was getting spins, and you know Jim heard it on the radio and asked how he could be a part of the situation," Ron explained. "We did a licensing deal so he could put it on his album and I can put it on my album."

Destroying rumors of any beef with T-Pain, who recently called out his misuse of the auto tune on the song, Ron jokingly confessed he had no intention of competing with the singer. "It was just a joke to me, Browz said. "I made the record playing around and it turned out to be a hit record. I probably was using it wrong, but for somebody using it wrong, I made a hit record."
Promising an untitled Universal debut this March, Ron hinted at what fans may expect. "It's like pop with a little bit of an urban twist with it," he revealed. "So far I'm doing the production because I know what I want to hear and when I want to hear it. I listen to different music."

Common has just officially announced the launch of his website and blog at ThinkCommon.com. In his video shown below, Common introduces us to his site as admits that he does not have as big of a web presence as he would like. But that’s about to change. Thankfully Common does not use the generic approach with the social networking sites that every artist these days is ripping from.

Common’s site can be best described as similar to Kanye West’s…which is a big compliment. You get a blog, tour info, bio, videos and can purchase music all from the home page. We are definitely looking forward to hearing more from Common in his blog as the guy always drops the mad knowledge. So make sure to check out and bookmark ThinkCommon.com now.

50 Cent Explains Before I Self Destruct Delay

When 50 Cent delayed his new album, Before I Self Destruct, until next year, many questions came up. Now, he's speaking on his decision to push back the LP.

"I'm trying to leave the same way I came in," 50 tells MTV. "February 4 [2003], Get Rich or Die Tryin', came out. I drop this album February 3. The time frame...it used to take six to eight weeks for us to position a hip-hop record. Now, it's taking 12 to 14 weeks."

50 says there's one culprit to blame for the additional time needed to work his singles.

"Just the positioning. I'm not comfortable where I'm at right now," he adds. "My song 'Get Up' is performing great. I'm happy with 'Get Up.' It moved faster than 'I Get Money' at radio. But I'm just looking for the opportunity to present more of my material [prior to the album's release]. It's not the strongest effort on my album; it's just a great start for me."

50 went on to note that he will be releasing a "Greatest Hits" record after this and will discuss re-negotiations with his label.

When asked about his alleged failures with recent albums, he said there were no ill feelings.

"I think all artists have things they can point to that have been done wrong at different points in their career. It's cool. I'll get over it. They can just pay me."

Trailer to Jim Jones’ musical (not a joke)

When I posted the story that Jim Jones was going to make a stage play musical based on his life I got a couple e-mails claiming I was making stuff up (even though it was from AHH). Well now here is all the proof you need. The official trailer to Jim Jones’ stage play musical called “Hip Hop Monologues.” Believe it. Plus, I gotta give props to Jim for his creativity and risk taking on this. Originality in hip-hop is rare these days. At least he is trying something new.

DJ Drama Talks Lil Wayne, Dedication 3 Details

Although there have been many Lil Wayne mixtapes released over the years, some have doubted his output as of late. Now, DJ Drama is speaking on Wayne's new tape, his beat selection for it, the doubters and a lot more.

"People have their opinions or their comments, but Wayne putting out a mixtape shows he's still in the game," Drama told MTV this week. "[This mixtape] isn't for the money or the fame, it's for the people. It's for the game. You can hate on Drama or Wayne all you want, but we're doing this for the game."

He followed that up by speaking on the beats he chose for Wayne to rhyme over.

"I picked the 'Art of Storytelling 4' beat. You never heard nobody rip that 'Art of Storytelling' other than Outkast. People are scared of that. That's [Andre] 3000 on there. Weezy went in, he killed it. He did his thing. The 'Shootouts' beat by Soulja Boy is on there. Wayne did the V.I.C. 'Get Silly." One of my favorites he did was the old Lil Jon and Too Short [track 'Couldn't Be a Better Player,' which Wayne retitled 'Dick Pleaser']. Tip's 'Whatever You Like' is on there. 'Ain't I,' that beat is on there — it's more singing on this tape clearly than part one or part two. But that's where Wayne is right now, his zone."

Drama also noted a prominent appearances from Wayne's crew.

"I think it's more ... definitely more Young Money [Entertainment] than it was on the first two tapes. It was always Young Money on the tapes, but I think this one is more for what Wayne is doing. He knew people would be paying attention to the brand. It was a place for his artists to shine as well. I also have my artists Willie Da Kid and La the Darkman on the tape. Just the brands alone, Dedication, Wayne, Gangsta Grillz — it's that strong."

The Dedication 3 tape drops Thursday. Currently, listeners can check HipHopDX's audio section for The Leak 5, another Weezy tape. Wayne can also be seen on a tour which will kick off December 18. Keyshia Cole, Gym Class Heroes and T-Pain will join Wayne on this tour.

Big Boi Plans 3 Outkast Albums, More Acting Roles

Outkast's Big Boi will appear on an episode of NBC's Emmy Award winning drama Law & Order airing November 25. "Daddy Fat Sacks" will play the role of "Gots Money," a rapper who begins working as an undercover agent after becoming caught up in an animal-smuggling ring.

Big joins the ranks of fellow Atlantan, Ludacris, who formerly appeared on the show as the stepson of Ice-T's character, Detective Odafin Tutuola. While Big Boi has recently dabbled both acting and ballet, the Dungeon Family co-founder says he and Andre 3000 will shift their focus back to rhyming in 2009.

"Me and 'Dre were on the conference call [recently]," Big Boi said to MTV News. "He’s working on his album; my album is done. We're gonna wait until the top of the year — January or February — to put it out. Then 'Dre is gonna come hit y'all, and [then] we're gonna do the Outkast album. So y'all gonna get three records from the 'Kast next year."

Big Boi's solo debut, Sir Lucious Left Foot: Son of Chico Dusty, was originally slated for a fourth quarter release. The lead single "Something's Gotta Give," featuring Mary J. Blige, spent six weeks on Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. Arista never publicly stated a reason for the album's delay, and the single peaked at the number 83 spot, before completely disappearing from the charts two weeks ago.

Lil Wayne gets top credits over Bow Wow in “Hurricane Season”

So what does that really mean in English you say? Well when you look at a movie poster, the studio always lists the main actors at the top of the poster…this is top billing credits. In Hollywood, getting top billing credits is HIGHLY political, especially when there are too many actors but not enough space on a movie poster.

So Lil Wayne will be making his major movie debut in the upcoming basketball movie Hurricane Season. See exclusive pics here. The movie also stars Forest Whitaker, Isaiah Washington and Bow Wow. Although Bow Wow has more screen time and experience in movies and film, Lil Wayne has managed to steal the spotlight and is given top billing credits over Bow Wow. So in the popularity contest of rappers, we now know what the studio thinks. Shad can’t be too thrilled about that.

That’s right. Hurricane Season is now the movie starring Forest Whitaker and Lil Wayne. An Academy Award winner with the winner of who can use the most Styrofoam cups. I didn’t believe it at first…until I saw the official title shown below. Props to Weezy and his agent. Now he can be top billin’ with an Academy Award winner.
