Snoop Reveals He Has Ghostwriters

If Hip Hop was a religion, an MC not writing his own rhymes might be considered blasphemous. Unlike other genres of music, MCs who typically spit raps written by others have been chastised (though Diddy and Dr. Dre seem to have gotten a pass). Now, with his super stardom bigger than ever, Snoop Dogg challenges the status quo.

In the current issue of XXL magazine, Snoop, “the only muthafucka that can do porno, coach football and have a cooking show”, openly admitted to having others write songs for him on his forthcoming album, Ego Trippin .

“I was watching Diana Ross get inducted into a Hall of Fame, and she got up there and named all of these great songwriters. Her biggest songs were written by somebody else", Snoop says about the switch. “So I’m thinking, Wow, there’s nothing wrong with my pen, but I’m going to let other people write for me”.

The revelation may come as a shock to fans of the Dogg Father, but fans may be shocked further upon learning that one of the most creative songs to hit radio in some time, "Sensual Seduction", is one of the tracks Snoop didn’t pen himself.

“My boy Shawty Red wrote the song, ”he reveals during the interview.

He goes on to possibly violate another of Hip Hop’s commandments by stating that he’s not into rapping as much as he used to be.

“I was probably a little doper back then, ”he says when asked about 1993. “Right now I’m into creating a lot of shit. Back then, I was just into rap—the style, the flow, fucking you up, the baddest muthafucka, the coldest vocalist.”

Snoop also discusses the late 2Pac ’s final days and sets the record straight on his involvement in the Death Row/Bad Boy beef.

The latest issue of XXL is on newsstands now.

The Game Incarcerated, Begins Jail Sentence

Compton rapper The Game reported himself to authorities this weekend, to begin serving his 60 day jail sentence. Sunday, March 2, the Geffen Records star reportedly accepted his arrested without incident, and began fulfilling the sentence which was determined in a Los Angeles courtroom on February 11, after a no contest plea. The rapper is in the Twin Towers Correctional Facility.

The sentence is in response to incident a year earlier, in February 2006, whereby The Game admitted to assaulting two men and aiming a pistol at one during a basketball game at The Rita Walters Educational Complex.

The rapper is currently working on his album L.A.X. The work is said to be a reunion with mentor Dr. Dre after a storied label-change and falling out in 2006. This album, which had been previously said to be The Game 's final, also may sport an Aftermath imprint yet again.

At the time of his detainment, The Game 's label The Black Wall Street was also in negotiations for distribution between Warner Brothers, Interscope and Sony. It is presumed that these negotiations will be tabled until the rapper's release from jail, expected in early May.

According to TMZ.com, the rapper will serve his time removed from general population, in an isolated cell.

Be Kind Rewind (Movie Review)

I had only seen about one or two commercials for this movie and well it is well worth it. I never wanted to buy a camcorder and record so much in my life. Its a cool movie, it has it share of funny parts, and like all movies it has its down town when you tend to drift off a little bit. But yea Mos Def and Jack Black definitely pulled off a good movie even though it wasn't marketed real good.

Here is a quick summary followed by a trailer:

Jerry (Jack Black) is a junkyard worker who attempts to sabotage a power plant he suspects of causing his headaches. But he inadvertently causes his brain to become magnetized, leading to the unintentional destruction of all the movies in his friend's (Mos Def) store. In order to keep the store's one loyal customer, an elderly lady with a tenuous grasp on reality, the pair re-create a long line of films including The Lion King, Rush Hour, Ghostbusters, When We Were Kings, Back to the Future, Driving Miss Daisy, and Robocop , putting themselves and their townspeople into it. They become the biggest stars in their neighborhood.

Juvenile's Daughter Killed By Her Brother

On Thursday evening, Anthony Tyrone Terrell gunned down his mother and two sisters at their home in Lawrenceville, GA according to the Atlanta Constitution. The 17-year-old boy shot and killed both his 11 and 4 year old sisters as well as his 39-year-old mother.

Joy Deleston was an actress who appeared in locally produced films as well as a 7 ½ year veteran of the Gwinnett County Sheriff’s office. Her daughters, Jelani (4) and Micaiah (11), also died of gunshot wounds. The youngest daughter’s father according to child support papers was rapper Juvenile. The rapper, whose real name is Terius Gray, has yet to comment on the incident.

Police responded to reports of shots being fired at the home and when they arrived, found a bullet in the house next door. After entering the home, they found Micaiah and her mother dead inside the front door. The officer’s then went upstairs and found the body of the 4-year-old. Officers were still at the scene when Terrell arrived at the house.

"Investigators interviewed Mr. Terrell and as a result of the interview, there was enough probable cause to charge him with the murder of his mother and two sisters", officer Illana Spellman stated to the newspaper. The motive for the shootings is still under investigation.

Terrell was a sophomore at Central Gwinnett High School and has been charged with three counts of murder and three counts of aggravated assault. The firearm used in the slayings was recovered after Terrell advised police where he disposed of it.

People close to the family were shocked by Terrell ’s actions as a director who worked with Deleston noted that the boy was “a good kid”.
