DJ Drama Talks Lil Wayne, Dedication 3 Details

Although there have been many Lil Wayne mixtapes released over the years, some have doubted his output as of late. Now, DJ Drama is speaking on Wayne's new tape, his beat selection for it, the doubters and a lot more.

"People have their opinions or their comments, but Wayne putting out a mixtape shows he's still in the game," Drama told MTV this week. "[This mixtape] isn't for the money or the fame, it's for the people. It's for the game. You can hate on Drama or Wayne all you want, but we're doing this for the game."

He followed that up by speaking on the beats he chose for Wayne to rhyme over.

"I picked the 'Art of Storytelling 4' beat. You never heard nobody rip that 'Art of Storytelling' other than Outkast. People are scared of that. That's [Andre] 3000 on there. Weezy went in, he killed it. He did his thing. The 'Shootouts' beat by Soulja Boy is on there. Wayne did the V.I.C. 'Get Silly." One of my favorites he did was the old Lil Jon and Too Short [track 'Couldn't Be a Better Player,' which Wayne retitled 'Dick Pleaser']. Tip's 'Whatever You Like' is on there. 'Ain't I,' that beat is on there — it's more singing on this tape clearly than part one or part two. But that's where Wayne is right now, his zone."

Drama also noted a prominent appearances from Wayne's crew.

"I think it's more ... definitely more Young Money [Entertainment] than it was on the first two tapes. It was always Young Money on the tapes, but I think this one is more for what Wayne is doing. He knew people would be paying attention to the brand. It was a place for his artists to shine as well. I also have my artists Willie Da Kid and La the Darkman on the tape. Just the brands alone, Dedication, Wayne, Gangsta Grillz — it's that strong."

The Dedication 3 tape drops Thursday. Currently, listeners can check HipHopDX's audio section for The Leak 5, another Weezy tape. Wayne can also be seen on a tour which will kick off December 18. Keyshia Cole, Gym Class Heroes and T-Pain will join Wayne on this tour.

Lil Wayne Explains Mixtape Diss & Still Calls Out Deejays

After Lil’ Wayne torched the mixtape scene with scathing comments in an interview with Foundation Magazine, the entire mixtape scene was up in arms. Even the legendary DJ Doo Wop decided to get in on the mix and fire back at Weezy F Baby. Late last night, Lil Wayne called in to DJ Drama’s Shade 45 Sirius Satellite Radio show to explain his position to the world.

“First off I ain’t mean to disrespect no deejays, no mixtape deejays, whatever kind of deejay you is, there was no kind of disrespect,” Wayne said on the air. “Especially given the fact that me and Drama, me and [DJ] Khaled and me and my homeboy Raj Smooth from New Orleans, we all get it in and do the mixtape thing. So given that fact, I think things were blew out of proportion."

Many may know that Wayne has been a fixture in the mixtape scene and recorded some of his most popular work with the likes of DJ Drama, Smoov and DJ Khaled. So who exactly was Wayne coming after with those sentiments?

“This Empire nigga, I don’t fuck with him. For all deejays I just want you to know that [the diss] was meant for that Empire nigga. I don’t fuck with the Empire nigga. The nigga put a CD out on me every month and I couldn’t tell you how none of them niggas look in person,” Weezy said in regard to Worldwide Legacy’s brand of mixtapes. There is a popular series produced by The Empire titled The Drought Is Over which has been making its rounds in mixtape circles for some time.

Weezy still stands by what he said and made sure that he wanted those upset with him over the statements to feel the same way they did even after Wayne appeared on Drama’s show.

“Whoever got soft feelings and whoever took what I said and wants to feel some kind of way, I want you to know, please don’t feel different after you hear me on this right here,” Wayne said as his tone changed. “I want you to still feel [like saying] ‘fuck that nigga’ cause when you see me in the streets I want it to be that because I’m going to bite your fucking face off.”

Wayne also sent a special shout out DJ Keyz and DJ Pratt who put out the Wayne’s World series. “If you made the Wayne’s World Vol 1-7 then your mama’s a bitch! And if you the Empire nigga, I hope you die twice tomorrow!”

But after it was all said and done, Weezy spread love to people like Drama, Khaled, Tony Neal of the Core DJs and others. “But for the other mixtape deejays I love you. No homo. I wouldn’t be shit without you.”

I am pretty sure that Weezy has a lot more mixtape DJ's to dis because his name and music has been flooding the music game over the last few years. I am sure just Empire was the only to take the heat because he is a big name and he fooled us all with the Weezy mixtapes. But we all knew since Drama's Dedication mixtape none of the Weezy mixtapes were official even though they all had their new singles on them.

DJ Drama Interviews Block

G-Unit/Drama Gangsta Grillz Collabo in the Works

DJ Drama promises that it will be one of the biggest mixtapes of the year. Arguably the top DJ in the mixtape field is teaming up with arguably the most renowned crew in the underground circuit. The first-ever G-Unit Gangsta Grillz is about to go into production.

"A couple of days after G-Unit dropped their Elephant in the Sand mixtape [two weeks ago], I got the call from 50 [Cent] and he was like, 'Drama, what up? It's time to do this G-Unit/ Aphilliates Gangsta Grillz.' He's really going heavy on the ThisIs50.com Web site, and he was saying basically it's time to get G-Unit hot in the South. What better way to do that than to do a Gangsta Grillz? Not only from a South aspect but from a quality street-music aspect. Me and Whoo Kid talked the other day, Fif and G-Unit are getting songs together, [my artists] Willie Da Kid and La Da Darkman are getting some songs together. I reached out to the King and told him it's a special project; I need him to get busy. We're gonna go in."

"The King" Drama is referring to is, of course, none other than the King of the South, T.I. Drama said he's also reached out to a slew of his other friends from the South and told them to get their best material ready. 50's DJ, Whoo Kid, will also be heavily involved in putting the project together.
