Black Mafia Family Story Rights Sold For Television

After the success of Frank Lucas' story evolving to American Gangster [click to read], another urban drug saga may be coming to screens in upcoming years. The Black Mafia Family, a nationwide ring of high-volume cocaine distributors, better known as BMF, has been sold to DuBose Entertainment.

Announced today, the terms of the sale were not made public. However, a statement from the company declared that a TV series, similar to The Wire, was being scripted. The statement also alluded to a film script in development as well.

Per DuBose' report, "Brothers Demetrious 'Big Meech' Flenory and Terry Flenory were sentenced to 30 years in prison for operating a multi-state criminal enterprise involving cocaine distribution. 'Big Meech,' the leader of the notorious BMF, lived a lavish lifestyle that he generously shared with his members garnering him a level of notoriety and celebrity status usually reserved for hip hop royalty. Authorities estimate the operation began in Detroit during the 1990s and eventually expanded to Missouri, Kentucky, Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, California and Texas."

Meech had been widely known in Hip Hop for his close association with Young Jeezy [click to read] as well as BMF Entertainment's own artist Bleu DaVinci [click to read].

"This is a complex crime story that weaves elements of humanity, a strong family bond, street-level survival and opulence with real consequences," says James DuBose. "The acquisition of the Black Mafia Family story reflects my mission to pursue contemporary and authentic stories."

DuBose also recently announced a partnership with Disturbing Tha Peace's Chaka Zulu and Jeff Dixon on their own venture Ebony Son Entertainment.

Rick Ross M.I. Yayo [ Full DVD ]

Part 1

Part 2

Rick Ross embodies the streets of Miami right down to his name and style of his facial hair taken from one of the most infamous street figures in Miami’s history. Now Rick is here to tell the story of these streets as only he can with “M.I.Yayo”. M.I.Yayo takes its name taken from the slang words for Miami and cocaine and is a groundbreaking documentary about the real Miami, true murder and cash capital of America, told in a manner stylistically similar to the film “Cocaine Cowboys”, but this is much more by and of the streets. Executive Producer Rick Ross brought in Chris Larceny to direct this true story of the ten biggest dope kings of the late 80s and early 90s in Miami. Ross narrates stories of notoriously iconic figures such as Quartz, Flowerman, Bo-Diddly, Bunkie Brown, Big Ike, Convertible Burt, Rick Brownlee and of course “Freeway” Rick Ross. The documentary also talks about Miami’s most notorious gangs Vonda, John Doe and the Boobie Boys. These are the streets and this is the world of Rick Ross. The “M.I.Yayo” soundtrack is included in this double-disc packaging and both the movie and the music are designed to be placed in Rick Ross section of your store for maximum exposure. The soundtrack features music from and inspired by “M.I.Yayo” with production by Street Radio and Jimi Kendrix. The musical backdrop supplied by Kendrix and Street Radio underscores the bleak and ultra violent story that unfolds on screen. Chris Larceny has spent years on the film and says that when he was approached by Ross to do this project, “I immediately started to research the history of Carol City, Overtown and Liberty City. After collecting footage for three years and putting the actual project together, I can truly say this will be ‘one of the best documentaries ever seen’. It’s not only about dope kingpins who came from nothing, it also covers the corruption in Miami, the Christmas Day killings, and turf wars all the way up to and including the telling of these events by the media. Not only are you getting a story about the streets, but the story is being told by the streets”. Rick Ross has paid the cost to be the boss. This is his story. This is “M.I. Yayo”.

Phillies Largest Coke Bust Nets 274 Kilograms aka $28 Million Worth of Cocaine

Like father, like son.

Cops said that Ricardo McKendrick Sr., 56, a reputed member of the Black Mafia of the '70s, and Ricardo McKendrick Jr, 36, were arrested Tuesday in connection with what they believed to be the largest cocaine seizure in the history of the city.

Cops seized about 274 kilograms of cocaine, worth about $28 million, and about $58,000 in cash from the McKendrick duo, who they said were responsible for distributing large amounts of coke to the Philadelphia area.

Acting on a tip, members of the Philadelphia Narcotics Bureau and the FBI set up surveillance on Ricardo McKendrick Sr.'s home on Federal Street near 26th in Grays Ferry for several weeks, with the most intensive period of surveillance taking place three days before the arrest.

Shortly before 8 Tuesday night, investigators saw Ricardo McKendrick Jr. leave his father's house, and when police stopped him in the area of 23rd and Wharton and executed a search warrant on his car, they found $53,000 in his car.

"Because of the totality of the circumstances and the credibility of the information that we had, we secured a search warrant for the house," said Chief Inspector William Blackburn of the Narcotics Bureau.

Police found approximately 264 kilograms of cocaine in the basement, about 10 kilos in the living room, a .38-caliber revolver, packaging materials, machines used for making bricks of cocaine and about $5,000, Blackburn said.

After the raid on Federal Street, FBI agents had information that led them to a home in Woodstown, N.J., where they seized a car with 15 duffel bags full of cash, which had not been counted yet.

At a news conference yesterday in the Narcotics Bureau headquarters in Hunting Park, Blackburn was joined by Mayor Nutter, Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey, FBI Special Agent in Charge Janice Fedarcyk, U.S. Attorney Patrick Meehan and some of the officers instrumental in the seizure.

"All of this activity is what leads, unfortunately, to the daily death and destruction on our streets," Nutter said.

"It is why people are actively engaged in some illegal activities that result in shootings and homicides. It's about drugs, it's about turf, it's about money.

"Philadelphians and people in the region will be safer as a result of the efforts of the men and women who are here today, who go out on a daily basis risking their lives to make all of us safer," Nutter added. *
