Papoose Accused Of Trying To Break Remy Out Of Prison

According to the New York Daily News, rapper Papoose attempted to break future wife Remy Ma out of prison with a small key.

"A wedding was scheduled today and a visitor to that wedding service was found to be in possession of jail contraband so the wedding was canceled," said a correction officer from Rikers Island.

"The key that was found today easily opened handcuffs that we and other law enforcement officials use," the official said.

Miss Info clarified certain details about this situation on her site, explaining that Papoose had with him an old skeleton key that he had on his keychain for a long time - which he visited Rikers on numerous occasions with, never having a problem.

According to Miss Info, Papoose subsequently gave up the keys once he was informed he could not enter with them. As the rapper was about to get onto the bus to visit Remy, along with Remy Ma's mother and three unidentified guests, he was thrown into a jail cell, and later taken to the warden.

At that point, Papoose was accused of trying to break Remy out of prison with the skeleton key.

Papoose was not charged, but cannot visit the prison for six months.

Remy Ma is due to be sentenced today for the shooting of former friend Makeda Barnes-Joseph. She faces up to 25 years.

Remy Ma Expected To Get 3-5 Years In Prison

Remy Ma, originally set to be sentenced to prison on April 23, is now apparently due to be sentenced May 13.

According to AllHipHop.com, although Remy faces up to 25 years in prison, sources said that she is expected only to received three to five years in prison.

The rapper, who was found guilty of assault, weapons possession and coercion by a New York Supreme Court, allegedly short childhood friend Makeda Barnes-Joseph for stealing $3,000 from her purse.

Remy's defense maintained that it was an accident (Barnes-Joseph later corroborated this, saying the gun went off by accident during a struggle over her purse), and will therefore appeal the verdict.

Remy Ma To Appeal & Marry Papoose Behind Jail

Female rapper Remy Ma (real name Remy Smith) plans to appeal the court's guilty verdict given yesterday (March 27) in her trial for assault and weapons charges. As reported by HipHopSince1987 earlier [click to read], a jury convicted Remy on two counts of first-degree assault, attempted coercion and criminal possession of a weapon.

Remy's attorney Ivan Fischer still remains adamant that she accidentally shot Makeda Barnes-Joseph in her car, after a scuffle over $3,000 cash allegedly stolen from Remy's purse in July of 2007.

During his closing statements, Fischer claimed the accidental shooting theory was a fact that was supported by Barnes-Joseph's own testimony. However, prosecutors say that Remy Ma's shooting was the result of the rapper's decision to take "an illegal .45-caliber automatic and [load] it with hollow-point bullets and go into Ms. Joseph's car."

Remy Ma faces 25 years in prison. She will be held in prison until her sentencing day next month.

In an e-mail he wrote to MTV, Papoose said that he and Remy had plans to marry next month—and that those plans will continue, despite her facing up to 25 years in prison. This builds upon what's been previously reported by DX [click here to read...]

"We always wanted to keep our personal lives personal, so that's why we never went public with our relationship," he said. "Right now, I just feel like she gotta live through me. Yes, we were scheduled to be married on a yacht April 27th. But due to circumstances beyond our control, we are now making arrangements to be married in prison."

Papoose has previously shown affection toward Remy in his lyrics (“Remy look good in person, just like she do in the magazine/so I’ma stay close to Ms. Martin, like Dr. King”), but the two had flatly denied being involved up until this point.

Remy Ma Found Guilty

It seems as if T.I. won't be the only rapper facing jail time in the near future. Today (March 27) 26-year-old Grammy-nominated rapper Remy Ma (real name Remy Smith) has been convicted on four major charges of the nine she was charged with -- two counts of first-degree assault, attempted coercion, and criminal possession of a weapon --after a 2007 incident in which she shot a friend of hers in the stomach (non-fatally) after a fight over $3,000 in cash stolen from Remy's purse. Remy's failed defense was that the shooting was an accident.

Assistant District Attorney Michael McIntosh said Remy "took an illegal .45-caliber automatic and loaded it with hollow-point bullets," then used both hands to cock the weapon as she got into the car. "She took every step you had to take to shoot somebody," said the prosecutor.

Defense lawyer Ivan Fisher said the gun went off accidentally as the women struggled over the bag.

The victim, former friend Makeda Barnes Joseph, who was shot in the abdomen, testified that she underwent three surgeries during a three-week hospital stay.

Remy was not found guilty of gang assault and witness tampering, among the nine total charges she faced. Reports are surfacing that as the verdicts were read, the courtroom broke out into madness with the victim's friends and family taunting Remy and making lewd remarks.

Remy could face up from five to 25 years in prison at sentencing. She was led out of a Manhattan courtroom Thursday, weeping and in handcuffs.

Justice Rena Uviller ordered her jailed without bail while awaiting her April 23 sentencing.

Witness Testifies Against Remy Ma

Remy Ma's assault trial continued in Manhattan today (March 12). 21-year-old Oluwole Ajudun testified at the trial today that he saw Remy cock a .45-caliber handgun and get into the car with Makeda Barnes Joseph, whom Remy is accused of shooting.

According to the Associated Press, Ajudun made it know that Joseph was "like a sister to me" and that he had known her for about six years.

The witness, who is an accounting student, testified that after a party in Greenwich Village on July 14, 2007, he saw Remy get out of her Cadillac Escalade with what he described as a "sliver chrome" gun. "I saw her cock it back and jump in Makeda's car" he said. Ajudun then said that he heard a pop moments later, and saw Remy leave Joseph's car.

Ajudun's testimony followed that of Crystal Ricks, who said she saw Remy approach Joseph's car, but did not see a gun. Ricks did, however, hear a pop, see a flash, and saw Remy step out of Joseph's car, but never saw her with the gun.

Currently, Remy is free on $250,000 bail, and faces up to 25 years in prison if convicted for first-degree assault and related crimes.

Remy Ma Goes On Trial

Rapper Remy Ma's court case began yesterday (March 10), for which she is charged with assault, witness intimidation and related charges.

Prosecutors told a Manhattan jury on that Remy Ma shot a NY woman, fled the scene and then tried to intimidate witnesses, according to Reuters.

The source of the argument, said prosecutors, was $3,000 missing from Remy Ma's purse. Assistant District Attorney Jason Berland explain that shortly after leaving a Manhattan nightclub, the rapper climbed into Makeda Barnes-Joseph's car, where the two women struggled over Remy's bag. Barnes-Joseph was shot in the struggle.

Remy Ma's lawyer Ivan Fisher said that the shooting was an accident, and that Barnes-Joseph was simply trying to win money from the rapper. "This case will leave you with enormous doubt," said Fisher.

"[Remy] is not the type of person to sit back and let people testify against her," said Berland, referring to his claim that Remy Ma and Papoose were later behind the beating of two men. One of the men, according to Berland, was the boyfriend of an eyewitness to the shooting.

Remy Ma faces a maximum sentence of 25 years in prison.

Papoose Denies Engagement

Despite recent rumors that have been spreading all over the net Papoose says that his engagement to rapper Remy Ma is false.

Although, he did not deny that the two do "share a friendship," Papoose strictly went on record stating: "It's not true. [We're] friends."

As previously reported, the assault trial for Remy is officially underway as jury selection began on March 6th in New York. Remy is facing assault and related charges for allegedly shooting a woman twice in the abdomen, last summer. Clearly shaken up from the thought of Remy's situation, Papoose refused to comment on the trial.

In other news, there has been speculation that 50 Cent has expressed interest in signing Papoose to his G-Unit imprint. Neither confirming nor denying the courtship, the Brooklyn rapper did express his respect for Mr. Jackson's empire.

"50 Cent is an incredible entrepreneur," Papoose said. "He brings a lot to the table in hip-hop. What [G-Unit] put down in hip-hop, I don't think nobody's did in a long time. I respect them a lot. Tony Yayo, Lloyd Banks, the whole team. Those are my dudes over there. Who can't respect what they've brought to the game? You got to be a damn fool not to or you're just a hater. Them dudes are consistent man. That's all I have to say about them."

Although, Papoose did not reveal who he's been in talks with, he stated that there are a few opportunities available.

"I'm exploring my options and I have a lot of options right now," Papoose confirms. "Since I finally got my release from Jive. The only hold up was that I didn't have my full release. Now that I got my release I'm exploring my options."

With the ongoing war of words over the altercation between Papoose and Fat Joe, still raging on Papoose gave his latest assessment of the situation.

"One of the reasons why I think the reaction is so big is because I think a lot of people really dislike this dude," Pap explains. "They're tired of him trying to throw his weight around. If you listen to how he talks to a lot of the radio personalities, it's just no respect. This rap sh*t really went to this dudes head, man," he continues. "He really thinks that he's above and that he's bigger and badder than everybody, but he's really the cowardly lion. It's all a facade. And I think a lot of people are like finally someone put this dude in his place."

Remy Ma And Papoose To Be Married?

Last night on BET's The Black Carpet, rumors concerning a quiet-as-kept Hip Hop union were confirmed by host Egypt in revealing that rappers Papoose and Remy Ma are set to be husband and wife, with a wedding planned for summer. Remy Ma allegedly confirmed the rumors with the show host.

Both rappers have had a difficult last year. Papoose was recently let go of a blockbuster deal with Sony Records, after many speculated that the label had no intention of releasing the debut album from the Brooklyn emcee. Remy Ma, who remains in trial for attempted murder charges stemming from an early 2007 nightclub shooting, is also seeking a label home. Initially billed for 2007, Remy's next project is said to be PunisHER, which was to be released on Sureshot Records.

With a recent altercation between Papoose and former Remy Ma mentor and Terror Squad member Fat Joe, the seemingly unmotivated incident has two degrees of separation from Remy, who remains critical of Joe's ethics, leadership and integrity.
