First look at the Soulja Boy branded Yums! sneaker

Soulja Boy is catching some flack for his recent ignorant comments about supporting slavery but at the same time it really doesn’t surprise me coming from someone like him. Some how though, Soulja Boy still manages to land the promotional deals including his recent sneaker contract with Yums. And now the official Soulja Boy branded Yums sneaker is set to hit stores November 15th for $90. The all-white sneaker includes a caricture of Soulja Boy on the sole…so you can stomp on him all day long. I know you have been waiting. You can pre-order at the official site now.

Rick Ross Talks Exclusion from T.I. Track

When the T.I. enlisted the help of Jay-Z, Lil Wayne, and Kanye West for “Swagger Like Us,” it was considered one of the biggest collaborations of 2008. What many fans don’t know is that the track excluded one of the biggest stars in Hip Hop today—Rick Ross.

Despite not making the final cut, Ross told MTV that there are no hard feelings between T.I. and himself.

"I feel like everything happens in time," the bearded rapper says. “He had to make it as big as he could. It's Paper Trail, he had to make it explosive. ... The way I make music, I'm hater-free. So I don't have egos. I'm a fan."

As a fan, Ross went on to compare the collaboration to another classic Hip Hop track. "That's a statement record, 'Swagger Like Us.' I applaud Tip for making those moves [on the original]. That's a boss move. A lot of dudes wouldn't pull that together. It just don't happen that way. When you do see it pulled together and unfold the way it did, it's great for the game. It's great for the kids. It's great for the newer generation to see all the top dogs. Like when I was young, when I would come home and put the TV on. Before I watched cartoons, I put the TV on to see Fab Five Freddy [on 'Yo! MTV Raps'. You might see 'Self Destruction.' That made you love hip-hop."

The Boss would neither confirm or deny his participation on another version of “Swagger Like Us” that may feature Jay-Z, Nas, Andre 3000, Young Jeezy and himself.

Lil Wayne and Birdman in self-funded movie together

Birdman and Lil Wayne are releasing a movie with a similar buisiness model to 50 Cent’s self-funded movie Before I Self Destruct. Similar to 50’s movie, Birdman and Wayne are funding the movie Like Father, Like Son on their own, is more in the “amateur” street-style vs. glossy high production Hollywood and will be used as a marketing tool in conjunction with the release of a new album.

Birdman revealed on NY’s Power 105.1 “Me and Wayne just finished this movie — Like Father, Like Son — that’s coming out in June and the album coming out at the same time,” he said. “That’s what we do. Just me being myself. I just wanted to, it’s something we wanted to fund. It’s ours.”

As artists find it harder and harder to sell physical CDs, expect to see more trends like these “self-made” movies as added bonuses. It’s only a matter of time before another artist jumps on this. We’ll have more details on Like Father, Like Son as we get them.
